Service and troubleshooting
A circuit that keeps dropping, a damaged receptacle, or part of the floor going dark. Justin starts by diagnosing the affected circuit before recommending a repair.
Service
Storefronts, offices, restaurants, churches, and warehouses across the Metro East. Justin Walker owns Lights Out Electric and reviews the scope, building hours, and any required shutdown before confirming project timing.
Lights Out Electric is a commercial electrician working out of Alton, IL, serving shops, offices, restaurants, churches, and warehouses across the St. Louis Metro East, including the business corridor in Edwardsville. Calls can involve service changes, equipment circuits, lighting, build-outs, or troubleshooting. Justin reviews the requested work and building hours before telling you whether he can schedule it.
Single-circuit requests are worth calling about, whether the need is a dedicated circuit, disconnect, or receptacle for new equipment. Share the equipment requirements and existing service information so Justin can review the request. If the building may have outgrown its electrical service, the first step can be evaluating the panel and the service coming in.
Share the building hours, any shutdown limits, and the least disruptive window. Justin will review those details before setting a date. For an industrial site or specialized equipment, start with the industrial electrical page.
The work
Common electrical requests from Alton and Metro East business owners.
A circuit that keeps dropping, a damaged receptacle, or part of the floor going dark. Justin starts by diagnosing the affected circuit before recommending a repair.
More amperage coming into the building, a panel replacement, new subpanels and feeders. Most of these calls start because the equipment in the building outgrew the service it was built with.
Requests for dedicated circuits and disconnects start with the equipment requirements and the building's available service capacity.
Warehouse and shop bays, offices, retail spaces, parking lots, and exterior fixtures can all be reviewed for lighting repair or retrofit work.
Tenant build-outs and remodels can include rough-in, devices, and fixtures, coordinated with the project's other trades and schedule.
Old branch circuits, open boxes, and wiring altered over the years can be assessed for repair, cleanup, or replacement.
Commercial electrical planning can also involve workplace-safety requirements that do not apply in the same way to a house.
OSHA's exit-route standard addresses emergency safeguards, illumination along exit routes, and illuminated exit signs. A failed fixture or sign along an exit route may therefore need to be evaluated as more than routine lighting maintenance. The applicable requirement depends on the building and workplace.
OSHA also sets working-space requirements around electrical equipment, including minimum width, access for doors or hinged panels, and restrictions on using the space for storage. Keep the area accessible and confirm the requirements that apply to the equipment and site.
Exit routes and emergency lighting: OSHA, 29 CFR 1910.37, Maintenance, safeguards, and operational features for exit routes. Working space at electrical equipment: OSHA, 29 CFR 1910.303(g), General requirements.
Lighting and operating cost
An LED retrofit can reduce lighting energy use without changing the work the building supports.
LEDs can use 75 to 80% less electricity than the incandescent lighting they replace for equal or better brightness. Where an incandescent lamp runs around 1,000 hours, LED products may be rated for 25,000 to 50,000 hours or more. In hard-to-reach locations, longer rated life can also reduce relamping work.
Ameren Illinois may offer business energy-efficiency incentives for qualifying lighting or equipment upgrades. Programs, eligibility, and amounts can change and are set by Ameren Illinois, so check the current program directly before relying on an incentive. The LED lighting upgrades page explains the fixture, wiring, and compatibility questions used to scope a retrofit.
Who you are dealing with
Lights Out Electric is owner-operated by Justin Walker. The number on this page reaches him directly, so the first conversation about the building, requested work, and timing starts with the owner.
Justin started at the Alton Steel Mill alongside his father and started Lights Out Electric in 2021. The business has grown through referrals. Scott M. says he sends his clients to Justin consistently, and George S. says Justin has helped both him and his client multiple times. The longer version of how he got into the trade is on the about page, and the towns he covers are listed on the service area page.
Justin answers his own phone Monday to Friday, 7 to 3. If he takes on the work, he explains the scope and price before it starts.

Justin has come to my and my client's rescue multiple times. He took the time to listen to the problem, put a plan together and then did exactly what he said he was going to do at a fair price. If you need an electrician, I highly recommend Justin and Lights Out.
